Chanoyu (tea ceremony) for beginners I
@How to be a guest at a tea ceremony (3 sessions)
This series is held for those wishing to gain practical insight into the fundamentals of the tea ceremony, as well as for those who wish to savour authentic matcha from Kyoto in a tatami-floored tea ceremony room, in the tea ceremony style.
Open to all. However, in keeping with the original tea ceremonies, the number of participants is limited to preserve the ambience(Max 3 persons).
The first session will cover the guest's attire, what to bring, when and how to receive wagashi(Japanese sweets) and how to drink a bowl of light matcha.
The second session explains what the guest should observe within the tea ceremony room. You will practise the physical movements and actions from entering the tea ceremony room, having the wagashi and matcha, until departing.
The third session introduces the utensils that the guest can appreciate. Combining the understanding from the first two sessions, participants savour the moment of the tea ceremony.
Through repeating practice three times, one begins to grasp the essential principles of being a guest. One will also discover what, for oneself, constitutes the appeal of the tea ceremony.
